Xiao Zhan Sings the Theme of Small Town Remedy

On the eve of the premiere, Small Town Remedy released its theme song, sung by lead actor Xiao Zhan, plus the titles of four insert songs. All we have so far is a caption and a list of titles, but they hint at the show's mood.

On October 20, the day before Small Town Remedy (小城良方, Xiaocheng Liangfang) premiered, its official Weibo account released the show's music.

The theme and ending song is "Qingqing" (《轻轻》, "Softly"), sung by the lead actor, Xiao Zhan (肖战). The caption says it holds "the unspoken feelings of Liu Zhengliang." Liu (刘铮亮) is Xiao Zhan's character, a gifted doctor who is forced back to his hometown, a small town in China's Northeast. The caption adds that the melody unfolds slowly, "like a warm breath handed over by the town," and that a preview was available.

The caption does not say what those feelings are. The same day, the official caption for a character featurette used a similar phrase: one person "returns carrying something on his mind," among a lively crowd.

The first wave of insert songs was announced at noon:

Ren Suxi is a singer here, not a cast member, although some aggregator sites wrongly listed her among the actors.

We have only titles and a caption, so we are not judging the music. Read together, the titles point to company, drifting and the town itself, with one that sounds comic.

Our guess, and only a guess: the last title may sit near an official clip from October 19 about Liu's longing for his mother, Li Zhongling (李忠玲), played by Jiang Hongbo (姜宏波). Nothing official links the song to that clip, and we say nothing about the plot.

The show airs from October 21 on CCTV-8 and iQIYI.
