About the drama
Justice Is Mine (绝命法官, Jueming Faguan, "fatal judge") starts from a question with no comfortable answer: what does a man who has spent his life defending the law do when his own son breaks it? Zhang Jiahui (张家辉), the Hong Kong film star, plays the judge, and the Hong Kong outlet HK01 noted that it was his first television lead in nearly 20 years. Opposite him, Myolie Wu (胡杏儿) plays the police inspector who will not let it go. Zhang told HK01 that what drew him was the contradiction of a judge who breaks the law.
The texture is distinctive. It was made in both Mandarin and Cantonese versions, shot largely in Jiangmen, Guangdong, and set in the 1990s in an invented port city that echoes Macau and Hong Kong. It was one of Youku's White Night Theater (白夜剧场) crime and suspense series for 2025.

The story takes place in the fictional city of Haogang (濠港). In the early 1990s the judge Qin Yu (秦誉, "Chun Yue" in Cantonese) and Senior Inspector Tang Xuan (唐萱, "Tong Huen") worked together to put the gang boss Han Kuilong (韩奎龙) behind bars. In 1998, Qin Yu's only son, Qin Yiwei (秦一唯), is driving when he hits Han Kuilong's elder son and drives away.
To protect his son, Qin Yu asks an old friend, the retired police officer Cao Weier (曹威尔), to help bury the truth, and he pushes the blame onto someone else. The decision pulls him step by step into lies, and it reopens an old feud between the Han family and a rival gang, the Old Town gang, led by Qi Changrong (戚长荣). Tang Xuan keeps digging, and corruption in the police and the business world begins to surface.
The series adapts the Israeli drama Kvodo (כבודו, "Your Honor"). Chief screenwriter and producer Ou Guanying (欧冠英) said about two-thirds of the script is original material, including a new storyline for the inspector.
The working title was 刍狗之血 (Chu Gou Zhi Xue, "blood of the straw dogs"), taken from the Laozi line that heaven and earth are not benevolent and treat all things as straw dogs, a reference to an age in which ordinary lives count for little. The team chose the plainer Jueming Faguan to be easier for general audiences.
Filming began in September 2024 in Jiangmen and wrapped on December 19, 2024 after 84 days. It was the first production of Ou's Hong Kong company, Jieti Linian (阶梯理念).
