About the drama
The Heart 2 (问心2, Wen Xin 2) follows The Heart (问心), the 2023 hospital drama. It aired on CCTV-8 from June 18, 2026, ran 40 episodes, and is finished. The core team returns: writer Zhou Yifei (周艺飞), director Li Zhi (黎志), and the same three lead doctors.
It suits viewers who liked the first season, and those curious about a medical drama that widens its scope. Xinhua quoted the production team as saying the sequel keeps the "warm realism" of the original while pushing for more depth and sharper observation. Reviews are mixed, though. Yangcheng Evening News noted a split: some single-patient stories cut hard on medicine and social issues, while the many parallel storylines struck some viewers as forced conflict.

The story picks up two years after the first season ends. Zhou Xiaofeng (周筱风, Mark Chao) returns to Dongli Hospital (东立医院) after a medical-aid posting in Guizhou and becomes executive head of cardiology. His job changes: he still treats patients, but he must also handle staffing, resources and how the department runs.
Fang Xiaoran (方筱然, Mao Xiaotong) carries on in intensive care. Lin Yi (林逸, Jin Shijia) works in cardiac surgery and still lives with the inherited cardiomyopathy that runs in his family. Two newcomers shift the balance: a medical-device sales manager, and the new head of cardiac surgery, Sheng Nian (盛年, Huang Jue). Young trainee doctors, among them Ye Sisi (叶偲偲) and Du Wenzheng (杜闻诤), add a coming-of-age thread. Patient cases then raise questions about the doctor-patient boundary, scarce resources, organ transplants and the device industry.
Like season 1, it is set in a present-day Chinese hospital, a fictional one. Filming ran from late September 2025 to January 31, 2026, entirely in Ningbo, with Ningbo No. 2 Hospital as the model for the main medical scenes. Xinhua reports that more than 200 medical consultants advised on scripts, cases, acting and emergency procedures, and that the project took three years to develop.
The title carries over from season 1: Wen Xin means "ask the heart."
For reception, China's National Radio and Television Administration reported that the 40 episodes drew 360 million viewings on CCTV-8, with an average rating of 1.151%, and that the finale's rating was 17.2% above the premiere's. People's Daily published a commentary by Tsinghua professor Yin Hong saying the sequel does not simply repeat the first season but extends the doctor-patient story into hospital management and wider social space.
