About the drama
The Oath of Love (余生，请多指教, Yu Sheng, Qing Duo Zhi Jiao, "for the rest of life, please advise me") is a hospital-and-campus romance with a gentle pace. Its pleasures are small ones: two people who do not rush each other, a family that argues because it cares, and a lot of cello.
It also arrived with unusual baggage. The series was filmed in 2019, and was first announced to air in September 2021 before that date was withdrawn. It finally began on March 15, 2022. Interface News, writing around the halfway point, reported 1.47 billion total views by then, and said the series reached first place in Yunhe Data's share of effective viewing on March 22. The same article also recorded plenty of criticism.

Lin Zhixiao (林之校, played by Yang Zi) is a third-year music student who plays the cello. She wants to follow her own musical path rather than the life her father, a strict high school teacher, has planned for her. Then her father is diagnosed with stomach cancer, and her life is turned upside down.
Gu Wei (顾魏, played by Xiao Zhan) is the surgeon who takes her father's case. He is gifted, but he is also deeply sensitive to failure, and a medical accident has left him close to giving up his profession. Lin Zhixiao's resilience and good humor affect him; his steady presence in turn becomes a comfort to her. The series shows the pressures around them: her parents, his demanding parents, a cousin who rarely takes anything seriously, and a talented senior from her school years who returns from abroad and becomes a rival for her attention.
The story is set in a modern Chinese city, and filming took place in Wuxi, which became a talking point during the broadcast. It is adapted from the novel of the same name by Berlin Shijiang (柏林石匠), published in 2016 by Baihuazhou Literature and Art Publishing House. Director Lü Ying (吕赢) also directed Hu Er Jin Xia (忽而今夏), and Lu Tian (陆天) was head writer.
The series was produced by Penguin Pictures (企鹅影视) for Tencent Video and Hunan TV. It aired on Hunan TV and Tencent Video at the same time, from March 15 to March 31, 2022.
Interface News called it a typical "star plus popular novel" romance and noted that online discussion split between those who found it sweet and those who found the plot contrived or the medical detail unrealistic. It also pointed out that the series was made in 2019, when the sweet-romance formula was still fresh.
