About the drama

To Ship Someone (全世界都在等你们分手, Quan Shijie Dou Zai Deng Nimen Fenshou, "the whole world is waiting for you two to break up") starts from an argument anyone who reads romance will recognize: should a love story end happily or sadly? Here the argument is personal. One side writes the sad endings, the other wants the couple to be happy, and both end up inside the book.

It is a compact series of 24 episodes on iQIYI, built around two leads and one idea. The characters can edit the plot, and the plot pushes back. The dispute between "HE" (happy ending) and "BE" (bad ending, the sad one) is the engine of the series, and it keeps every scene tied to a single question: who gets to decide how a love story goes?

Ji Shu (纪述, played by Zhu Zhengting 朱正廷) is a novelist known for painful love stories. Song Yanqi (宋言柒, played by Lu Yuxiao 卢昱晓) is a film and television planner who prefers her romances warm and complete. In the opening episodes she takes on the job of adapting his novel and promises that the author will cooperate. He is not eager to. She turns up at his door posing as his girlfriend, a damaged parcel leaves her owing money, and a confession in a restaurant leaves both of them embarrassed.

Then the premise turns fantastical. The two are pulled into the novel itself, and back at her company they try to work out what has happened to them. Ji Shu's younger sister Ji Fei (纪霏) appears, and Song Yanqi becomes his assistant. By the seventh episode they are back in the real world, where Ji Shu finds that his novel has been altered and that he cannot delete it.

From there the series moves between the real world and the story, with the two of them trying to steer the plot toward the ending each prefers while they grow closer. The rewriting also puts warmth into a story that began as a tragedy.

The series was released on iQIYI in 2023 and runs 24 episodes. iQIYI International credits Tian Shaobo (田绍博) as director.

The premise is a contemporary story with one fantastical device: the author and the adapter enter the book together, and each has a professional stake in how it ends.
