gè dēr · Northeastern sentence-ender expressing disdain, as in 'hope for what?'

Share card for this term

Ge der is a Northeastern dialect tag that follows a word and adds disdain, as in 'what do you expect?'. The line 'ni xiwang ge der' (你希望个嘚) comes out roughly as 'hope for what, exactly?'. Where it is used is disputed: a Liaoning user said it is rarely used there, and a Heilongjiang user said the same of their province, which shows how hard it is to pin a dialect to a place. Small Town Remedy's dialect gap runs through this line.
