jīcéng yīliáo · grassroots medicine: county-level and below hospitals, township clinics and community health centres

Share card for this term

China's health system is tiered. 'Grassroots' (jīcéng) medicine means the bottom layer: county hospitals and below, township health centres and community clinics, as opposed to the big-city tertiary hospitals (三甲). It is where most people see a doctor first, with the least equipment and money, and the setting of Small Town Remedy's Xiaoximen Hospital.
