sǎohēi chú'è · 'sweep away gangs, eliminate evil': China's anti-organised-crime campaign
Saohei chu'e means 'sweep away the black, eliminate evil', where 'black' stands for the criminal underworld. It is the name of a national campaign against organised crime and the officials who protect it, launched in 2018 as a three-year special struggle. Crime and police dramas set in this period draw on it for their stakes, and The Knockout uses the campaign as its backdrop.
