Share card for this term

Shaozhi is the custom of burning paper money, paper goods and sometimes paper models so that the dead can use them in the next world. The name means literally 'burning paper'. Families do it at graves, on street corners and at festivals such as Qingming. In Small Town Remedy, the missing mother's farewell letter tells her sons to reach her by burning paper, a deadpan way of saying 'text me the old way'.
