Xuanhuan is a web-novel fantasy genre; the literal meaning is 'mysterious fantasy'. Its stories take place in invented worlds with their own ranked systems of power, races and magic, and they are looser than xianxia, which stays closer to Daoist ideas of immortals and cultivation. Like xianxia, it belongs to the web-novel era, so many dramas in the category are adaptations of online serials. A field guide on the site uses it to mark where fantasy drama stops being xianxia.
