Good Will Society

The setting is the fictional coastal city of Jianghai (江海市). In the First People's Hospital, five doctors from different departments who would not otherwise cross paths are brought together by the hospital's marathon club. Liu Ziyi (刘梓懿, Xin Zhilei 辛芷蕾) is a neurosurgeon, decisive in the operating room and less sure in love. Qin Wenbin (秦文彬, Bai Ke 白客) is a cardiac surgeon with a celebrated reputation and a marriage in trouble. The others are Wang Gaosheng (王高升, Zhang Zixian 张子贤), a general surgeon of nearly twenty years' standing who keeps missing promotion; Gu Shiyi (顾诗宜, Yao Anna 姚安娜), an emergency doctor; and Jiang Yu (蒋毓, Shi Mingze 师铭泽), an ICU doctor.

The cases that come in are small and human: a patient in financial trouble, a research-paper deadline, an ICU family disagreeing over how far to continue treatment.

The series is set in a contemporary hospital. It is an original script, not an adaptation. It is directed by Tian Yu (田宇) and co-produced by Mango TV. The writers had earlier made the pediatric medical drama Amazing Pediatricians (了不起的儿科医生, 2020), and spent months interviewing medical staff in Shanghai hospitals for this one.

The marathon idea came from Weng Haixin overhearing doctors chat while he was a patient. Wang Huan said the sport also works as a symbol: doctors race illness and race themselves. The name Ren Xin (仁心) is the traditional ideal of a doctor's compassion, literally "benevolent heart".

For reception: the Fujian Provincial Radio and Television Bureau reported more than 2.46 billion views and the top real-time rating among provincial satellite channels for 19 days in a row. Beijing News noted that audiences enjoyed the on-screen contrast between Xin Zhilei and Bai Ke.
