About the drama

Hide Games (搏忆, Bo Yi) is a compact crime thriller made in the micro-drama format: 24 episodes of roughly 19 minutes each, about 7.6 hours in total. It is the sort of series you can finish in a weekend, and the pitch from the press was "short-drama length, long-drama content".

What makes it notable is who made it. The director is Peng Fa (彭发), a Hong Kong film director, and the leads are Wallace Huo (霍建华), Bosco Wong (黄宗泽) and Kan Qingzi (阚清子), actors usually seen in long-form television. It premiered on Tencent Video on August 21, 2025 and is finished. The mainland audience took it seriously: according to World Journal it reached a Tencent heat index of 17,000 and a Douban score of 8.1.

The series is set in a fictional place and runs on one central case: the murder of an anti-narcotics officer. Around it sit the investigation and the question the story keeps asking about people, which is how far goodness and darkness can sit inside the same person.

Wallace Huo plays Han Xu (韩旭), an anti-narcotics officer whose memory has become confused after brain damage. According to World Journal and HK01, he finds himself accused of killing his wife. Bosco Wong plays Wang Jian and Kan Qingzi plays Chen Yaxin. Karl Ting (丁子朗), in his first mainland drama, plays Xiao Wu, Han Xu's apprentice, a role HK01 reports viewers read as ambiguous from the first episode.

The format is the unusual part. Peng Fa said in a livestream, as reported by HK01, that he approached it as a film, not as a short drama. HK01 also reports that the three leads used their own voices instead of being dubbed, a Taiwanese actor and two Hong Kong actors speaking Mandarin.

The move by established actors into short drama drew some criticism that it was a step down. Wallace Huo, who had not led a series since 2019, answered that he does not separate long from short drama and cares about the script, the director and the co-stars. World Journal reports his line as "a good story does not depend on length".

Press accounts describe action set pieces such as car chases and gun fights in the style of a film.
