Love in Pavilion

In this world humans and demons share the land, and the clans of humans form the Yiqi Alliance (一气盟, Yiqi Meng, "one-breath alliance") to keep order between them. The alliance is fraying. Wangquan Hongye, heir of the Wangquan house, leads a band of second-generation clan members called the Mask Squad (面具团, Mianju Tuan) who set out to learn the world's secrets and protect both peoples. Dongfang Huaizhu comes from the Dongfang house and carries its divine fire (神火, shen huo). The two work to steady the alliance while their houses and enemies pull in other directions.

The series is set in the same world as the Fox Spirit Matchmaker (狐妖小红娘, Huyao Xiao Hongniang) franchise, which began as a comic by Tuo Xiaoxin (庹小新) and is among the best-known Chinese animation properties. It is the second screen adaptation in a planned trilogy, after Fox Spirit Matchmaker: Red Moon Pact (狐妖小红娘·月红篇) in 2024, with a later Wangquan chapter to follow. The Paper (澎湃新闻) notes that it takes place earlier in the timeline than the other two.

It was first titled Fox Spirit Matchmaker: Zhu Ye Chapter (狐妖小红娘·竹业篇), and the title was changed after Red Moon Pact drew heavy criticism and a Douban score of 5.0. The director is Du Lin (杜林). iQIYI said the visuals were based on Song dynasty aesthetics, with bamboo greens and ink-painting touches.

The Paper reported that the series drew over 3 million bookings on iQIYI before launch, and that on May 11 its iQIYI heat index reached 8,900. The same article records an argument among fans of the comic about whether the changes made for television were improvements, and it judges the viewing figures weaker than for the earlier chapter. The English-language review site Chasing Dramas gave it an initial rating of 6.5 out of 10, finding Zhang Yunlong's performance stronger than the lead's.
