About the drama
Mysterious Lotus Casebook (莲花楼, Lian Hua Lou, "lotus tower") is a wuxia (武侠, "martial-arts chivalry") story told mostly as a series of self-contained cases, each one a puzzle in the world of the jianghu (江湖, "rivers and lakes", the fighters' underworld). A fallen legend, a young master with a point to prove and a formidable old rival are thrown into the same road, and the pleasure is in watching the three of them go from suspicion to friendship. The setup stays simple: a doctor who wants to be left alone, and people who will not leave him alone.
It premiered on iQIYI on July 23, 2023, and ran 40 episodes until August 9. Jiemian reported in August 2023 that its iQIYI content heat had passed 10,000.

Ten years ago, Li Xiangyi (李相夷), head of the Sigu Gate (四顾门), was the shining sword of the righteous side. He agreed to fight Di Feisheng (笛飞声), head of the Golden Mandarin Duck League (金鸳盟), on the East Sea, and both men disappeared over the water. Their organizations were left badly weakened and slowly faded.
In the present, Li Lianhua (李莲花), played by Cheng Yi, wanders the countryside as a doctor, dragging a lotus tower behind him. He has become a famous healer more or less by accident, and he no longer wants anything to do with the jianghu. Fang Duobing (方多病, Zeng Shunxi), a hot-blooded young man who dreams of upholding justice, becomes convinced that Li Lianhua is a fraud and sets out to prove it. Di Feisheng (Xiao Shunyao), who has returned to the world, takes his own interest in the quiet doctor. Case by case, they become friends.
The jianghu of the story is an invented martial world, not a dated historical period. The series is adapted from the novel Ji Xiang Wen Lian Hua Lou (吉祥纹莲花楼, "the auspicious-pattern lotus tower") by Teng Ping (藤萍). It was produced by Beijing iQIYI and Huanrui Century (Dongyang). Guo Hu (郭虎) and Ren Haitao (任海涛) directed, Liu Fang (刘芳) wrote the script, and The Paper reported that a filming launch was held at Hengdian on June 26, 2022.
Besides iQIYI, the series was broadcast on CCTV-8, China Central Television's drama channel.
