About the drama

Only for Love (以爱为营, Yi Ai Wei Ying, "run it on love") is a workplace romance in which both people are good at their jobs and say what they feel. Zheng Shuyi (郑书意, played by Bai Lu, 白鹿) goes after what she wants, whether that is a story or a person. Shi Yan (时宴, Wang Hedi, 王鹤棣) answers with dry composure and counters each of her moves.

The tone is light and warm, and the conflict is mostly misunderstanding rather than catastrophe. Its worlds are media and investment. A reporter needs access, an executive needs the right story told, and the two have to work out when the professional exchange has become something else. It premiered on Mango TV on November 3, 2023, and ran 36 episodes.

Zheng Shuyi is a top-tier finance reporter whose team is trying to upgrade its e-magazine. To make that happen she wants an exclusive interview with Shi Yan, the president of the company Mingyu Yunchuang (铭豫云创). She uses every approach she can think of. He sees through each one and returns the move.

The Beijing News described the setup as "happy enemies" who become partners walking side by side: a contest of hearts in which each finds a worthy opponent. The series also builds three secondary couples, among them Yu You (喻游) and Qin Shiyue (秦时月), Guan Ji (关济) and Bi Ruoshan (毕若珊), and Guan Xiangcheng (关向成) and Tang Yi (唐亦), so the show reads as a portrait of different stages of adult love rather than a single track.

The story is set in the present day, in the worlds of media and investment. It is adapted from the novel Cuo Liao (错撩, "a wrong flirtation") by Qiao Yao (翘摇), who writes for the web-fiction site Jinjiang Literature City. Guo Hu (郭虎) directed, and Yang Qianzi (杨千紫) is credited as screenwriter. The producers are Mango TV and Dongyang Liehuo Film and Media (东阳烈火影视传媒). Filming began on November 22, 2022.

Mango TV began streaming it on November 3, 2023 and Hunan TV started broadcasting it on November 5. The streaming finale came on November 29. In its end-of-run release, carried by China Daily's Chinese site from Jiangxi Network Radio and TV, the producers said the series had drawn over 4,800 hot-search entries during its run and had topped a number of platform charts, including Yunhe, Maoyan, Datawin, Vlinkage, Guduo and Lighthouse. They also said Yunhe Data certified it as one of the year's hits.
