About the drama

Shine on Me (骄阳似我, Jiaoyang Si Wo, "the blazing sun is like me") is a warm, unhurried romance that treats its heroine as an equal partner rather than a devotee. Nie Xiguang (聂曦光), played by Zhao Jinmai (赵今麦), is cheerful, direct and not defined by who has or has not noticed her. The series follows her from campus into working life, and its centre of gravity is growing up, not pursuit. Beijing News described the central couple as "partners in love" (爱人伙伴, airen huoban) who are equal, respectful and trusting. Beijing Daily quotes the line the story rests on: "I know I'm good, and I deserve to be loved."

It was a clear success for a modern romance. It premiered on Tencent Video on December 22, 2025, and finished on January 11, 2026. The platform heat index peaked at 30,130, which Beijing News called the highest for a Tencent Video modern romance since 2024; it also reported, in mid-January 2026, a Douban score of 7.4, the highest among Chinese modern romances of 2025.

Nie Xiguang once carried a long, one-sided crush on a campus classmate, Zhuang Xu, played by Lai Weiming (赖伟明). After university she enters the workplace and meets Lin Yusen (林屿森), played by Song Weilong (宋威龙). He was a surgeon until an accident ended his ability to operate, and he has moved into business.

Early on there are misunderstandings. As these clear up, the two grow close, and his steadiness helps her let go of the old crush and face obstacles alongside him. Around them run family and workplace storylines, including her mother Jiang Yun, played by Jin Qiaoqiao (金巧巧), and a lively aunt and cousin who supply support and comedy.

The setting is contemporary urban China. According to the China Writers' Network, filming took place in Shanghai, Suzhou, Wuxi, Jiaxing, Huzhou, Changbai Mountain and Dunhuang.

The drama is adapted from the novel of the same name by Gu Man (顾漫), who wrote the screenplay herself and, Beijing Daily reported, took part in the whole production. Chen Zhoufei (陈宙飞) directed, and Xixi Pictures (西嘻影业) produced it with Tencent Video. Its founder, Yang Xiaopei (杨晓培), told Beijing News that romantic storytelling needs "an upgrade" for the present day.

Chutian Metropolis Daily reported that the series was streamed on more than ten overseas platforms, reaching over 190 countries and regions.
