chāoqián diǎnbō · paid early access: viewers pay to watch episodes before the normal release
Chaoqian dianbo means 'advance on-demand'. It is a streaming-platform practice in which subscribers pay an extra fee to watch the latest episodes before they are released to everyone. It turns the final episodes of a hit into extra revenue and reliably draws complaints from viewers who feel they are being asked to pay twice. Tencent Video opened it for the last episodes of Against the Current.
