About the drama
One actress, two women with the same face. Where the Mask Ends (嫁金钗, Jia Jin Chai), a Youku period drama that premiered on October 16, 2026, casts Tian Xiwei (田曦薇) as both a street-raised true daughter and the pampered false daughter who took her place. It is a clear break from her sweet roles, Pursuit of Jade (逐玉) among them, and the household around her is stacked with actresses known for playing palace-drama villains.

The heir to a ducal house, Lu Zhuo (陆濯), lies unconscious, and his family wants a chongxi (冲喜, "marrying to bring luck") bride. Jun Dai (君黛), the false daughter, refuses. A Chou (阿丑), a girl who collects night soil and has her face, is sent in her place. According to CCTV Video, A Chou is in fact Wei Rao (魏娆), the noble family's real daughter, swapped as a child. In a mansion full of schemers, she has to scheme to survive. Some English-language previews reverse the sisters; we follow the broadcaster's account.
The show adapts Xiao Jia Ren's (笑佳人) Jinjiang (晋江) novel of the same name, but the book has one heroine, a noble lady in a light marriage-first romance. The series splits her into two rivals, and some readers protested before the premiere that only the title was kept. Director Yang Long (杨龙) says the pleasure is in watching someone nobody expected to succeed pull herself up. The look is loud on purpose: gold-thread costumes, gold props, and red set against green.

Where the Mask Ends vs Tigers Sniff the Rose: How One Hashtag Built a Duel the Calendars Don't Show
A Weibo hashtag read Youku's one-a-day calendar for Where the Mask Ends as a duel with Tencent's Tigers Sniff the Rose. The calendars, CCTV-8's own listings and the comment sections show a premium tier losing its lead over the TV channel, and two earlier disputes over release pace show the grievance is older than either show.
