Dian means mad, and in Cantonese it is the everyday word for crazy; from there it spread through mainland internet slang, especially fa dian (发癫, to go off the deep end). Online it is used half as a joke: a person or a show that is dian is absurd, excessive and fun to watch because it does not hold back. A dian ju (癫剧) is a drama whose plot and acting run gleefully over the top. On Filter's opening night, the Weibo hashtag calling it a "crazy drama" (滤镜癫剧) reached the trending list.
