lěnggōng · 'cold palace': the wing where disgraced consorts were confined

Share card for this term

Lenggong means 'cold palace'. In palace fiction it is the isolated wing where concubines who lost the emperor's favour, or were disgraced, are confined, often forgotten and left to decline. Being sent there is the low point of a heroine's fortunes in a gongdou story. The Feng Qi guide opens with a modern woman who finds herself in the body of a consort in the lenggong.
