Shuangnanzhu means 'two male leads'. It is a label for dramas centred on a pair of men whose bond drives the story, and in practice many are adapted from danmei novels. On mainland television the relationship is usually presented as deep friendship or brotherhood with romantic subtext. Word of Honor was the first shuangnanzhu drama of 2021, arriving in the shadow of The Untamed.
