The Vanishing Beauty: The Marriage Drama Where the Wife Plans the Divorce Like a Takeover
A guide to the Tencent Video marriage drama The Vanishing Beauty as it airs: the heiress who treats her divorce as a fight over evidence and company control, Li Yitong's modern lead, the lawyer and what Chinese divorce law says.

Why this one
A husband's affair, a wronged wife and a woman in the next room: it is the oldest set-up in the modern Chinese drama, and viewers who know it brace for the slap. The Vanishing Beauty (美人余) premiered on October 9 on Tencent Video, and in the first week's discussion on the r/CDrama forum the point raised most often was that it does not play that scene. One viewer, two episodes in, noted that it was not "another story about a wife fighting (or literally slapping) the mistress", and that the two women "might actually team up".
What replaces the fight is a plan. Yu Meng (余梦), played by Li Yitong (李一桐), is a wealthy only daughter who learns that her husband is cheating. She does not explode. She starts working out how to divorce him while keeping her assets and control of the family company, Jiali (嘉立). The same viewer summed the show up in one line: "A Practical Guide to Divorcing Your Husband After Discovering He's Cheating." Divorce here is a contest over evidence, property and a boardroom.
It is also a compact show. There are 28 episodes, Tencent releases two each evening, and by October 15 the official account was hosting viewing sessions for episodes 14 and 15. A newcomer can still start from the beginning.
The setup
Yu Meng is, in the words of the synopsis on Tencent's WeTV app, an internet blogger raised in the Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai region, the only daughter of her family and a "woman of good fortune" envied by all. Her husband, Di Liren (狄立人), played by Qiao Zhenyu (乔振宇), is the model son-in-law. He married into her family, as a zhuixu (赘婿, a husband who joins the wife's household), and is seen as attentive and devoted. On their fifth wedding anniversary the picture cracks. She learns that he is seeing Wen Xiaoxiao (文晓晓), played by Yi Mengling (易梦玲), a fashion blogger with more than ten million followers who is crossing over into acting, according to the Yangtze Evening News (扬子晚报).
The production presents the marriage as a trap with a name, chi juehu (吃绝户, "eating the household with no heir"). The phrase belongs to old clan society and is used online for schemes that target the property of a family with only a daughter. This guide stays with the early episodes and leaves the reveals to the show.
What the opening establishes is Yu Meng's response. According to a viewer, the confrontation with Wen Xiaoxiao does not go as expected: Wen is no deluded homewrecker but an opportunistic, career-minded pragmatist who treats the affair as a transaction. Yu Meng then turns to a lawyer, Jiao Xu (焦旭), and to her best friend, Liu Zi (刘姿). By mid-October the official account describes the stakes as control of Jiali.

The full cast was announced at the start of filming on September 30, 2025.
Li Yitong away from the palace
For overseas viewers Li Yitong is mostly a period-drama face. Her best-known lead is Lu Wenxi (陆文昔) in Royal Nirvana (鹤唳华亭), a court tragedy that premiered on Youku on November 12, 2019, opposite Luo Jin (罗晋). Her latest period work is A Prophet (我不是大师, known as 长风起 until a September 2026 rename), a caper about swindlers with Li Xian (李现) that began on Tencent Video and iQIYI on September 24, two weeks before this show.
She has played contemporary roles too, among them Meng Yu (孟钰) in the crime drama The Knockout (狂飙). Still, the head of a polished marriage drama is a different kind of part, and the forum comments show viewers noticing. One said she had wanted to see Li Yitong play a rich heiress after A Prophet, and that the show delivered. Another had been hoping for a role unlike her usual costume dramas, and was watching for her. A third praised a scene of the heroine waking up after a night out: "It's so natural and it doesn't look like she's acting."
The role asks for a shift in register. Yu Meng begins as the pampered wife, and a forum reader saw early hints that she is capable, perceptive and logical. Not every viewer is won over: one who liked the show and its lead was not a fan of her outfits.
The lawyer: Chang Huasen as Jiao Xu
The male lead is a lawyer, not a rescuer. Jiao Xu specializes in divorce cases, and the official account's post for the first episodes describes their first meeting: he lays out the standard playbook of a cheating husband, and Yu Meng, not convinced, leaves. The partnership begins with distrust.
Chang Huasen (常华森), born in 1997, is better known overseas for period and fantasy roles. A viewer who watched five episodes wrote that it was nice to see him in a good character "finally", rather than as an obsessive one. Another enjoys watching both leads, and a third said he should do more modern dramas.
What a divorce actually involves
Overseas viewers have noticed that the drama treats the process as hard. In the thread, one reader wondered why Yu Meng did not photograph the affair when she had the chance. Another answered that her goal had shifted from grounds for divorce to leaving with her assets and the company, and that infidelity alone does not guarantee that. Here is what Chinese law says, as the setting rests on it.
China's Civil Code (民法典), in force since 2021, treats property earned during a marriage as joint property, including income from business and investment (Article 1062). Premarital property, and property that a will or gift contract assigns to one spouse alone, stays personal (Article 1063). Whether a family company counts as personal or joint property depends on how it was acquired, which is the kind of question a lawyer such as Jiao Xu is there to answer.
When spouses cannot agree, the court divides joint property with regard to the interests of the children, the wife and the innocent party (Article 1087). That is a guideline, not a fixed split. Infidelity as such does not entitle the wronged spouse to damages; Article 1091 lists bigamy, cohabiting with another person, domestic violence, abuse or abandonment, and other serious fault. A spouse who hides, transfers, sells, destroys or squanders joint property may receive less or nothing in the division, and the other can sue for a second division if it comes to light after the divorce (Article 1092). That clause gives a hidden-assets plot its legal weight.
Evidence is the other difficulty. Article 106 of the Supreme People's Court's interpretation of the Civil Procedure Law provides that evidence obtained by methods that seriously infringe others' lawful rights, break legal prohibitions or seriously offend public order and good morals cannot be the basis for a finding of fact. According to a viewer, the drama itself mentions that some evidence cannot be used because it intrudes on privacy. A reader who thought the heroine should have taken photos may be assuming a freedom the law does not clearly give her.
Release and heat
The Vanishing Beauty premiered exclusively on Tencent Video on October 9 at noon China time, with Dragon TV (东方卫视) airing it nightly at 19:30 from October 10. Tencent's evening updates arrive at 18:00, two episodes a night. Tencent lists it under its Firefly unit (萤火单元), a label for women-themed dramas.
Tencent Video's on-site heat value passed 20,000 on the evening of opening day, and the show's official Weibo account said it was the fastest 2026 Firefly drama to pass 22,000. On October 13 it announced 26,000. On October 12 it reported that the show's Weibo heat index had passed 80 million.
What overseas viewers are saying
The first-impressions masterpost on r/CDrama, opened on October 9, had about two dozen comments by October 16. The mood is cautiously positive. The most common praise is the heroine's restraint and the pacing. The most common reservation is predictability.
The highest-scoring comment called it a glossy urban relationship drama, and liked that the other woman is written as someone who knows what she is doing and sees that the man is using her. Another viewer, who had seen one episode, compared the style to K-dramas that look "trashy and flashy but with style", and planned to wait for the full run and its reviews. A third, five episodes in, called it a bit predictable but enjoyed watching the heroine out-maneuver her husband's schemes.
There are doubts about logic as well. A reader asked why a family so rich would leave Yu Meng in a regular hospital ward after a car accident. Another said that if the drama does not get smarter, it will be a drop. A few viewers are mainly there for the leads. Three episodes should tell you whether the glossy surface and the careful planning suit you.
Where to watch
In China the series airs on Tencent Video and Dragon TV. For overseas viewers, Hong Kong coverage and the r/CDrama masterpost list WeTV, Tencent's international app, and the masterpost also lists Tencent's YouTube channel. Availability varies by region, so check WeTV in your country.
