Tian Xiwei Stars in Upcoming Costume Drama Where the Mask Ends

Tian Xiwei (田曦薇) leads the costume drama Where the Mask Ends (嫁金钗), which premiered on October 16 on CCTV-8 and Youku, with a simultaneous Netflix release reported overseas. She plays two characters who share one face: Wei Rao (魏娆), the real daughter of a noble household, who was raised as a night-soil girl and known as Ah Chou (阿丑), and the fake daughter Jun Dai (君黛). Yan An (闫桎) plays the male lead, Lu Zhuo (陆濯).

Known for her vibrant screen presence, the actress takes on a storyline built around swapped identities. As Ah Chou, Wei Rao enters a ducal household as a substitute bride because of her resemblance to the noble family's daughter, and the series follows how she rewrites her fate. Director Yang Long (杨龙) said the poster slogan, "one face, two kinds of ruthlessness, three changes of fate", is the hook of the series: Jun Dai's ruthlessness shows in her words and actions, while Wei Rao's comes from clawing her way up from the bottom.

Beijing News reported that bookings on Youku and Weibo had passed 5 million by the time of the premiere.
