About the drama
Quite the Girl (好一个乖乖女, Hao Yi Ge Guai Guai Nü) took the opposite route from most adaptations. It began as a vertical micro-drama, a series of very short episodes shot in portrait format for phones, and has been rebuilt as a landscape-format series for a conventional streaming audience.
The hook is a performance of obedience. The title plays on guaiguainü (乖乖女, "good girl", the obedient daughter who does as told), and the drama is built around a heroine who wears that label as cover. Lu Mingyu (鹿鸣于) must read as docile to the people around her and calculating to the audience, and that split is the role. The genre label is bai qie hei (白切黑, "white outside, black inside"): the heroine who looks mild and is anything but. The series asks whether the performance can be kept up around someone who is paying attention to her.

Hong Kong outlet HK01 describes Lu Mingyu as the second daughter of the Lu family, confined at home since childhood and mistreated by her uncle's household. She plans to run away and, on the way, meets Duan Xiuming (段休冥), heir to the Duan family. She sees that he can help her take revenge, changes her plan and goes back, drawing him step by step into a scheme of her own. As they spend time together, her cold, hatred-driven interior begins to change.
Sina Entertainment (新浪娱乐) adds that she is made to ghostwrite paintings for her uncle, and that the story builds toward an art exhibition. The series is still airing, so this guide stays at the level of the opening episodes.
The original reached the Hongguo (红果) app on February 3, 2025, according to The Paper (澎湃新闻). The remake began streaming on Tencent Video (腾讯视频) on October 12, 2026, with a new cast. Sina says both versions keep the same core, and that the source is a novel of the same title on the Fanqie (番茄) reading platform.
Sina describes the remake as stretching episodes of a few minutes into a mid-length series of about 20 minutes an episode, a form the industry calls zhongju (中剧, "mid-length drama"). The Paper says it adds three storylines: a wedding, an art exhibition and an escape plan. Where a vertical micro-drama puts a turn in every episode, the remake gives Lu Mingyu more inner life and gives Duan Xiuming a position and a history of his own, rather than leaving him a tool of her plan.
The original's reach is the commercial reason for the remake. Sina cites more than 4 billion views, a platform and production figure that other reports give as lower at earlier dates, so it indicates scale and is not an audited count.

Short to long: China's micro-dramas start sending hits and stars upstream
Two premieres on one October day show the traffic between vertical micro-dramas and long Chinese television running the other way: a four-billion-view phone hit remade as a 24-episode series, and last year's biggest micro-drama actress in a Republican-era drama. What the long platforms are buying, what the actors have to relearn, and why a hashtag about short dramas making people stupid makes the move matter.
